Workshop of Pentecost, 2024

Hélène Morbu, France

IMPRINTS AND TEXTURES
Workshop based on my practice of researching and experimenting with textures using clay slabs. Over the course of three days, we will explore the various possibilities of engraved or incised motifs using the 'comb' tool, which is omnipresent in my work. This course will take place in two phases. A phase of research into shapes and textures, punctuated by demonstrations, observations and discussions. The second part will be devoted to working with the textured sheet: shaping and assembly.
Saturday 18 May:
Presentation of the work to be done - theme: imprint and texture Visualisation and demonstrations: printing technique on clay plates using combs. Shaping clay plates with a crusting machine and/or by hand. Researching textures and creating the first samples.
Sunday 19 May: Sketching shapes and making small clay models. Analysis and choice of a shape to be made in large scale. Drawing up patterns for shaping the textured slabs. Research or manufacture of supports to give volume to the slabs. Possibilities of combining turned pieces and slabs.
Monday 20 May: Continuation of the work with the creation of textured sheets and shaping. Shaping and assembly of the sheets. Analysis and assessment of everything that has been done, short presentations by the trainees, reading and advice.
