Caquelon Sarine

Sarine is a contemporary fondue caquelon, the result of a collaboration between Julien Ayer and Potsfink. The project revisits an emblematic object of Swiss culture, seeking a balance between tradition, local identity, and contemporary expression.
Fondue occupies a particular place in Swiss social culture. It is associated with a moment of sharing, a collective practice, and a ritual deeply rooted in the territory. Sarine builds on this cultural reality to redesign the object through a contemporary approach while respecting its uses and proportions.
The central element of the project is the handle. Its form abstractly references the motif of the Fribourg coat of arms. This detail anchors the object in a strong regional identity while maintaining a simple and functional reading.
The project is available in two sizes, for two or four people, as well as in two graphic variants: a Swiss version and a Fribourg version. This duality allows the object to belong both to a national culture and to a more specific local identity.
The design seeks a sober and enduring form, capable of standing the test of time without relying on stylistic effects. The aim is to propose an everyday object whose presence remains discreet yet recognizable.
Sarine explores how an object deeply rooted in a culinary tradition can be redesigned today, preserving its social function while asserting a contemporary formal identity.
